I visited Southampton today (location of our regular Tolkien Reading Group meetings). Near the library where we meet, there is a small shop devoted to imported popular brands of processed foodstuffs from the USA, so we couldn't resist looking round it. I'm afraid as soon as I entered, the smell of all that junk-food set the internal alarm bells ringing! You could just tell that the overall effect was anathema as far as the human body is concerned.
